Botanical Name : Litchi chinensis
Lychee is a tropical fruit tree native from
southern China and Vietnam south to Indonesia and east to the
Philippines. Commercial planting and growing of lychees in China
is primarily in the provinces of Guangdong, Gangxi, Hainan,
Fujian, Yunnan, Taiwan and a small, special area of Sichuan/Szechuan
with a unique micro-climate. Guangdong is called 'the Kingdom
of Lychee' because the province has the highest and best lychee
production in China and lychees are grown almost everywhere
in the province. In Guangdong there is a grove that has a lychee
production record of over 2000 years!
Lychee are eaten as fruit, just peel off the
skin. The flesh is sweet and juicy with a big brown seed at
the center. Lychee have it own flavour.
Others uses, canned, dried, juice. The canned
whole lychee are used in dessert or drink. Commercially, lychee
are pack in juice from as a refreshment. Canned whole lychee
are used as topping of cakes, ice cream and others add on to
dessert. Lychee can be also made into lychee liqour.
Store in fridge and eaten when cold will
taste better. Can be store up to 4 days.
