Can a muslim eat chinese vegetarian food?
As we all know Muslims must only eat food that are Halal. But just curious whether can they take chinese vegetarian food? Being a chinese, I don't deny that plenty of chinese food contain pork. But if chinese vegetarian food contains that, then it's not really vegetarian right? so would muslims consider it okay to eat that?

Pork Fat Used in Chinese Vegetarian Food?
We eat out very infrequently, mostly out of dietary concerns. Once in a blue moon we will get Chinese food, and I'll order steamed veggies with tofu and brown steamed rice, but on occasion I have ordered a regular vegetarian entree. I was eating in a restaurant with a friend, who is Chinese, and told her no matter what I did, I couldn't make food at home that tasted like it did in the restaurant. I told her the oiliness was different, sort of rich and clingy...dare I say it, greasier, and maybe it was from the type of oil. She laughed and told me she worked in a restaurant in college and they added pork fat to just about everything to give it extra flavor, even the vegetarian dishes. I nearly barfed. I asked the waiter and he confirmed that yes, even many of their vegetable dishes did in fact contain pork fat I was floored. Is this widespread? Do people who are vegetarian or don't eat pork know that this is an issue? Am I the only person in the world who thought a " vegetarian" dish on a Chinese menu really meant vegetarian? AAAARGH Jay, I agree that a good vegetarian Indian restaraunt is a great thing, but there is tons of butter in Indian food, so if you're vegan you may want to avoid it.I'm thinking if we stick to steamed dishes we're okay, but think twice about ordering anything else
How can I make authentic Chinese vegetarian dishes?
All the " Chinese" recipes in my cookbooks are Americanized. I'd like to make truly authentic Chinese meals. I'm a vegetarian. I don't want to use fish sauce or anything like that. I do have a vegetarian oyster sauce I found. But I really don't know what to do with it Any recipes or ideas?Thanks.No the " Oyster sauce" I found has NO oysters in it. It is a substitute.

Are there Chinese vegetarian meals sold in stores? Is there even such a thing?Because I'm aware that you can buy meatless products from Boca, Morningstar Farms, etcetera.I removed meat from my diet altogether. But I used to really enjoy the taste of honey chicken and sweet & sour chicken. So, are there any meatless Chinese products? And if so, can they be found at just any grocery store? I find Boca and Morningstar Farms products in regular stores such as Wal Mart and Giant Eagle.Thank you in advance

Actually, I am looking for Chinese who are vegetarians because they care about animals. I am working in China and although I don't wave a flag saying I am vegetarian and actually am tired of talking about it I am frequently asked why I am. Unfortunately, when I try and explain it is done on compassionate grounds not because I don't like the taste or am a buddhist those who question me don't seem to understand at all so I need a Chinese vegetarian to advise me how I can get the message across.
